And because it is also diffused by the translucent surface, the light is more even and enveloping. Then, if we want soft light with darker shadows on one side of our subject, we must use a large light source placed very close to the subject. If we want a soft light, but we want shadows to form only behind our subject, we must use a large light
source placed further away from the subject .
